Grupo Mayan Resorts: Treat Your Feet

The Grupo Mayan resort spas are world famous for pampering our guests. From deep tissue massages to fabulous facials the Grupo Mayan spas are Mexico´s premier spa destination. Fortunately, your trip home does not mean you cannot continue to pamper yourself. Here is some advice from our Grupo Mayan spa professionals for an atñhome pedicure to treat your feet.

The Grupo Mayan spa experts recommend that you gather the following items before you begin your home pedicure.

  • Polish remover
  • Cotton balls.
  • Nail clippers.
  • Lotion.
  • Loofah.
  • Soap or gel.
  • Emery board.
  • Nail polish, (including a base coat).

The first step of a pampering pedicure, say the Grupo Mayan pros, is to remove any old polish. Once this is done the next step is a relaxing foot soak. Fill a large bowl or your tub with warm, sudsy water and soak your feet for twenty minutes. If your feet are sore and tired you can use a peppermint soak to revive them.

After your have soaked for twenty minutes it is time to remove calluses and dead skin. Massage your feet gently with your loofah. The Grupo Mayan spa professionals suggest using your clippers to remove any stubborn calluses. After you have used the loofah you should rinse your feet and dry them with a nice soft towel.

After your feet are completely dry you will trim your toe nails with nail clippers. It is recommended that you keep your toenails short and squared at the edges to avoid breakage and snares.

The Grupo Mayan pros massage lotion onto the feet after the nails have been clipped. A thick lotion especially for cracked and dry skin works best. Many of our clients have also found that applying this same type of lotion to their feet at night and sleeping in socks keeps their feet soft between treatments.

Put a small amount of polish remover on a cotton ball to remove any lotion residue from your toe nails. Allow them to dry and you will be ready for the polishing stage. The Grupo Mayan pros warn you to make sure all traces of lotion and soap are removed before you apply polish or it will not adhere to the nails surface.

Begin with a good, clear base coat and apply evenly to each nail. The purpose of the base coat is to help the polish adhere to the nail and to keep the colored polish from turning your nail yellow. It is an important step, say the Grupo Mayan experts, and one you do not want to skip.

After the base coat dries you will apply the color polish to each nail. The best way to apply the polish is with long, even strokes. Be careful not to clump the polish. The Grupo Mayan experts advise you to put on two coats of colored polish. After the last coat has dried you can put on another layer of the clear base coat to protect the pedicure from chipping.

The Grupo Mayan spa professionals hope the above information will help you treat your feet at home. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
